Meanwhile, in an alternative reality (in a more conformist, capitalist age)…..
And of course #LooneyTunes had its collective say:
Why???!!
Why???!!
Believe it or not, if you go all the way back to my first blog post, I said this blog was just going to be a space to talk about Black media, “Doctor Who” and T’Challa, The Black Panther 🙂 https://drumsintheglobalvillage.com/2006/07/24/hi/
Because 1) lifelong comicbook geek and 2) as a 20th-century pop-culture historian who wrote a whole book about a comicbook character, Superman is central to understanding a lot about the American strand of Western thought.
I will go back read first blog.
My apologes…
I wasn’t trying to be crass or disrespectful. Your knowledge in this area surpasses mine by decades.
I’m aware Superman’s signifigance to Western imperialism, state power and “whiteness”, but “why now”? Why another Superman film?
My apologies!
Sorry for the typo.
NP!
And….Ah! You answered your own question! LOL!!!
There *must* be a product every decade for this character *becaue* of what he represents! For almost a century now, he has been the test subject, purposely or accidently, for new media forums:
And on and on.
I argue that although “Doctor Who” probably is more ingrained in British culture than Superman is in American culture (well, we’ll find out real soon if that’s true, won’t we?), Superman is ingrained in the American mind of how America thinks it’s seen around the world and, apprpropiately, must represent, and be represented in, American capitalism.
So GO JAMES GUNN! I *love* Krypto!!! LOL!!!!
