65-Word Review of "Green Lantern" (Not Including Important P.S.)

Green Lantern

All exposition and cliche, and no real sense of excitement. Three thousand Lanterns DO NOTHING. Sinestro does NOTHING. Two-thirds in, I was thinking about a book I had bought before going into the theater. Sad.

(And Tim Robbins and Angela Bassett [!] get treated like cannon fodder! These are GREAT film actors, and THIS is what they have to do for checks in 2011?!? DAY-AM! :))

P.S. BUT the sequel should be GREAT! I was glad to know to stay half-way through the credits to see what I had really hoped to see!

Saving The Day (In Updated Costumes)!

But “Wonder Woman” didn’t get picked up by NBC. Hopefully the CW will step in, since it needs to replace “Smallville” anyway.

JUNE 2ND UPDATE: And now the DC Universe is rebooting?!? And in this reboot, DC has taken away Superman’s red overpants and given him a blue collar?!? Hmmm………

142-Word "Thor" Review (w/Some Related Misc.)

Very, VERY good! It could have been GREAT but, alas, Marvel doesn’t care that much; these movies are  just not that deep for The House of Ideas. (Moviewise, trade “Ideas” with money.) Kudos especially to Idris Elba, who could, and would, have stole the movie if his part had been greater. He has had to deal with a lot of crap from white fanboys, and his performance should shut folks up, a la Obama ( with birth certificate in one hand, Osama’s head in another) vs. Tea Party. More proof that there are no such thing as a small part if you are a great actor.

Onward to superhero movies “X-Men: First Class,” “Green Lantern” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.” I predict the DC property will be the best one this summer.

Then there’s the property below, which Marvel made famous in the 1970s:

"Archie"'s Big Comeback

I can’t believe I’m back in the Archie fold. ARCHIE, for Goodness’ sakes! (When did I leave? Nine? Ten? 🙂 LOL!) First the wedding story, which continues in a large “tween” magazine I now buy every month. And now this: Obama and Palin come to Riverdale! This cover is symbolic, using the old Archie-Gang-As- Superheroes-Gimmick from the 1960s as background players to Obama and Palin, who are paying homage to this famous 1976 comic‘s cover:

Archie Comics is learning how to create 21st century buzz while still holding on to its traditional, wholesome values.  I thoroughly enjoyed all of this new stuff, including the political two-parter. The 9-year-old in me is happy—which is no big deal, since it is whenever I visit my local comicbook store.
