Sammy was from Harlem. Below is a “Like It Is” documentary from 1978 (!) about Harlem.

Wow–I saw him on stage several times, and he always was a master. I was too young to be aware of the racial fight around me; thankfully, never had to–thanks to those who fought the big battles!
