A Note On (Online) Book Reviewing

Cat-CatReadingBook03

The bruhaha about online book reviewing, etc. made me think about stating my policy here. And so:

I take the MSM line all the way. Which is:

I’m a journalist who likes to review books. I’ve done so for a national newspaper wire service, national magazines and online (including this blog. ) Because of that, I’m on publishers’ journalistic reviewer lists. That means I get free books from them. Sometimes I review them, sometimes I don’t. If I get a postcard announcing a book and want to review it, I contact the publisher and do a review.

I say what I want to say, and then I file the book away or give it to someone. And that’s all *I* wrote. 🙂

  1. Hi Todd,
Speaking of which, I wanted to get in touch with you about a new critical edition of Frederick Douglass’ “Narrative” that we’re publishing with Angela Davis. I couldn’t find your email on the site. Maybe you could write to me? (I’ve got your address, so I can place a copy in the mail to you.)
    Take care, Stacey
